August 14, 2006 -- Heights Rate Increase
Effective October 1, 2006, Resnet service for Daniell Heights customers will increase to a rate of $21.25 per month, $75.00 per semester and $150.00 per year.
August 8, 2006 -- Heights Rate Increase
Resnet has gone through some major upgrades
over the summer. We now have a new automated sign-up system for easier
and faster connection of Resnet services. You no longer have a seperate
bill, the cost of Resnet services are now included in room and board.

September 22, 2005 -- MTU Offers
New and Improved DSL Service for Daniell Heights
On Tuesday, September 27,
2005, Information Technology will begin upgrading Daniell
Heights Resnet DSL subscribers to a new system. The new
system uses ADSL2+ technology with 10x1 Mbps service and
provides downloads that are 10x faster than in the past.
Although there is no additional cost for the new service,
it does require a new DSL modem.
IT is working a transition plan that will convert blocks
of user connections with only a short disruption of service.
Subscribers will be notified prior to their cutover date
and will be receiving instructions on the steps they need
to take in switching out their old DSL modem.

April 11, 2005 -- End of School Year Resnet Cancellation (Daniell Heights)
Telcom subscribers who are living in Daniell Heights are reminded that they will continue to be billed for their Resnet service unless they complete a Resnet Service Cancellation form.
April 11, 2005 -- Reminder to return Hub or DSL modem
Telcom subscribers who have either a Hub or DSL modem and are cancelling their Resnet service, are reminded that their will be a $100.00 equipment charge applied to their Telcom bill if the equipment is not returned to Telcom.
January 11, 2005 -- Access to Rovernet Expands
MTU's Rovernet network service has been opened up to the entire campus community (everyone with an MTU ISO userid and password) at no charge. See Telcom's News & Announcements for more information on this change in service.
October 31, 2004 -- MTU Usenet News Discontinued
Due to budget constraints the Usenet news service (NNTP) at MTU will end Monday November 1, 2004. More information can be found here.
August 17, 2004 -- New Ethernet Address Change Form
The following page will allow you to change your ethernet address online. You will need your MTU ID Number to access this page. This DOES NOT work for Daniell Heights residents. If you live in the heights you will still need to call the Resnet Consultants to change your ethernet address. Click here to change your ethernet address online.
January 12, 2004 -- The Resnet Consultants Have Moved
The Resnet Consultants' Office has relocated from B20 in the basement of the EERC to just down the hall in B25, located in the staff hallway. The Resnet Consultants' Office is open Monday-Friday from 10 am to 7pm, and Saturday-Sunday from Noon to 6 pm. October 17, 2003 -- Another Critical Windows Security Update
Microsoft released another list of vulnerabilites and their associated patches. One of these can easily exploit a remote vulnerability, giving the attacker system (admin) level privileges. Any Resnet customers running any version of the Microsoft Windows Operating System should visit Microsoft's site to install the latest critical patch.
September 18, 2003 -- Windows Vulnerability
There is another vulnerability in MS Windows operating systems similar to the one which allowed the Blaster and Nachi worms to infect systems. The patches that were applied to protect from Blaster and Nachi will not protect against the newest attacks. All systems running Microsoft Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003 are affected and should immediately visit http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-039.asp or http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and apply all available updates. Note that if an attack is launched against uprotected machine, that we will shut off infected computers to prevent virus proliferation.

August 12, 2003 -- New Hub Distribution Policy
Starting this year, there is a new policy regarding hubs. Any Resnet subscriber that will be the second person connected to a jack will need to email their name and room number to resnet@mtu.edu. That person will then be contacted when their hub is ready.

Any Resnet customers running any version of the Microsoft Windows Operating Systems are advised to visit Microsoft's site to see whether or not the update is necessary. Please visit Microsoft's site to find out if you are running an affected version of Windows.

If you feel like your Resnet connection could be slightly better and actively use programs such as KaZaA or Morpheus, please visit our Point to Point Notes page for information on how to control such program's bandwidth usage.
March 5, 2003 -- Free McAfee VirusScan
McAfee VirusScan is now available free of charge to all Resnet customers at https://secure.mtu.edu. Students will need their ISO passwords to download the software.
