How many people are on Resnet?
During the school year, just over 2000 network connections are in use on the Resnet network.

Where is Resnet available?
Resnet is available to any person living in any of the three residence halls, or in the Daniell Heights apartments.

How much does Resnet cost?
The cost of Resnet is included in room and board for those living in the Residence Halls. The cost for Daniell Heights customers is, $21.25 a month, $75 per semester, or $150 per academic year. For more information, see our Resnet billing page.

Where do I apply for/cancel/relocate my service if I'm a Heights resident?
You can visit the Customer Service office at B12 in basement of the EERC.

I was on Resnet last year. Do I need to sign up for it this year?
Yes. Resnet subscribers are required to register their device(s) per academic year basis.

If you are located in the Daniell Heights, you will have to sign up at the Customer Service desk located in the EERC room B12.

What happened to my hostname?
Customized hostnaming has been replaced with a format similar to rovernet. The syntax is as follows. For Wadsworth Hall, the syntax is: [BUILDING]-[FLOOR]-[XXX]-[XXX].resnet.mtu.edu For all other halls, the syntax is: [BUILDING]-[XXX]-[XXX].resnet.mtu.edu

[BUILDING] = The residence hall you are located in. This will either be dhh, emcnair, wmcnair or wads.
[FLOOR] = This only applies to customers living in Wadsworth Hall. This will either be g1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
[XXX] = This is the third octet of your IP address: 141.219.123.45 (Actual numbers are different.)
[XXX] = This is the fourth octet of your IP address: 141.219.123.45 (Actual numbers are different.)

If you are located in the Daniell Heights, you are still permitted to have a customized hostname. This will be included as part of the registration process when you sign up for service (EERC B12).

How do I setup / log on?
Simply plug your computer into your network jack, open a web browser and try to go somewhere. You will be redirected to a page where you login with your ISO username and password. After which, follow the instructions to register your computer. If you wish to register other devices (up to 5 per person) such as a Gamecube, Playstation 2, Xbox, Xbox360, etc. you can do so here.

If you are located in the Daniell Heights, you will be given the equipment necessary with provided instructions on setup. For common questions / problems, please consult our DSL FAQS documentation.

Do I really have to wait 5 minutes?
Yes, it takes the system a little time to register your device, although rebooting you computer may speed up the process, we still recommend you wait a full 5 minutes before contacting the Resnet Consultants.

What do I do if I am going to change rooms?
If you are going to change rooms, all you have to do is repeat the registration process in your new location. The system will automatically remove you from your old location and add you to your new one.

If you are located in the Daniell Heights and will / did change appartments, you can relocate your service by contacting Customer Service (EERC B12) at 487-2000 or filling out this online form.

What jack should I plug into?
If you are in Wadsworth Hall, use either of the black jacks (one roommate per jack). If you are in DHH or McNair, use either the black (upper right-hand corner) or yellow (lower right-hand corner) jack (one roommate per jack).

If you have three or more people in a room, the red (lower left-hand corner) jack will be active for the third and other roommates. In Wadsworth Hall, there is no red jack, you will use the other white jack which no phone is connected to.

Coaxial connections used for cable TV can be found in the following locations for either of the three dorms. In Wadsworth Hall, the coaxial connection is on the wall near one of the two networking jacks. In DHH and McNair Halls, the coaxial connection is located on the same box on the bottom.
